Chinese Governæent may eventually cecure a controlling interest in any of the Companies concerned, which

would place it in a position to alter their contitutions, or event liquidate them. This, it is calculated, would have a serious detrimental effect on British trade and interests generally throughout China.

Ambassador as you may consider appropriate with a view to a ruling being obtained from the Hinis ry of Finance, or other appetent Authority in Hanking, that the sheres of the Comɔnnica concerned are not "Foreign exchange assets" within the definition of the above quoted article, and for a cancellation of the order of the Changhai Authorities regarding their s rronéer.
